Slimy Little Opus

break is over,
time to kick it into a gear.
maybe one slower than the one i was using before.
i couldn't do that, no, never.
i'll just keep my normal pace.
i apologize for today's late post,
here i am!

/music

Live At the Apollo I - James Brown (soul/funk)
the motherfucking godfather of soul knew how to funk it up real horrorshow back in '62, it is documented here. fa.

With Love - Ralfi Pagan (latin/salsa/groove)
i was introduced to mr.Pagan through an lowrider compilation, i had no idea he was more than a guy you could cruise to, you can also cut some rug with this man & his band.

Catalogue - I Start Counting (electronic/dance)
my buddy james passed this onto me and it's quite snappy. they remind me of depeche mode. i can't find much else from this duo but i hope to maybe find more soon.

Giblets

hope everyone eats well today..
and i mean everyone..

Live at the Olympia [france 1981] - the Cure (post punk)
i have fallen in love with live bootlegs from the Cure. their live sets sometimes make my favorite songs even better than before, maybe it's the emotion in robert's voice, could be the atmosphere i get when i close my eyes, i don't know. what i do know is that this is a must have for a Cure fan.

Sleep In Safety - 45 Grave (death rock)
i remember watching Return of the Living Dead for the first time and wanting to know who performed the song when the dead started to rise from their graves. a few months passed and i bought the soundtrack (which is classic on it's own) and found out it was 45 Grave. i fell in love instantly with Dinah Cancer's voice and grew to appreciate death rock.

Peace Thru Vandalism EP - the Vandals (punk)
another band i was introduced through Manic Hispanic, godamn them cholo boys now what to pick.

Faces In The Rain

the other day i saw someone i used to know.
they walked up to me & swore they remembered me from somewhere,
but for the life of them, they just could not remember me.
i on the other hand, knew exactly who they were and just played opossum for laughs.
after oh so many guesses, i told them who i was with a smile on my face.
their curious grin faded and they said,
'that can't be, i heard you died last year'

/music

Dummy - Portishead (trip-hop)
my first experience with Portishead took place last year at Coachella fest. i was blown away although i was extremely tired. i had never heard of them before that encounter and i found out later that it was their first US show in god knows how long which made me feel like i was a part of something.

Old World Underground, Where Are You Now? - Metric (pop new wave guitar)
what i like most about this album is the song 'Dead Disco', if you listen closely, you can hear a SERIOUS influence from the Cure's 'A Forest', i've read it was deliberate but i'm not too sure. either way it's a great song off of this primo album.

Les Comtes de la Krypt - Kryptonix (psychobilly)
i love things in french, it gives things a kind of snooty/classy feel, Le Big Mac for example. Kryptonix aren't snooty or classy though, which is good because i can only stomach so much of that.

Big Lizard Comin' Your Way

sometimes we'll do things we can't explain,
normally we might just despise doing a certain thing,
but when it's for someone you truly care for,
it's as easy as apple pie.
there are times though,
where the things we do for others are disregarded,
and if it was for someone you truly cared for,
it's as easy as gouging eyes.

/music

Various States of Disrepair - Hickey (punk)
i recently got into this group and i really like their style. they did a 'split' with Voodoo Glow Skulls, er well, sort of. they stole a trumpet from those bastards and after so many phone calls, they gave it back...full of pudding. afterward the lead singer of VGS along with some of their Epitaph cronies left some hilarious voicemails, threatening the group, pretending to be satan and just making fools of themselves. in the end Hickey won.

The Black 45 EP - UK Decay (post-punk/death rock)
i've been drowning myself in post-punk & other stuff considered 'goth rock', i love the feel of it, the bass lines are always the best. this is a fine example, i agree with others when they say that these guys should have been just as big as Bauhaus or whoever else they get compared to.

Wreckers Yard - Coffin Nails (psychobilly)
i'll probably just say what the rest of the world has already said about this group, so i won't get into it. i rarely see this one floating around, i just wanted to drop my coin in the hat.

Meet Bo Derek & Be Her Tarzan

today is my father's birthday, i know he'll never see this,
but happy birthday dad.
thank you for all the things you've done & still do for me.
thank you for heavily influencing this music taste of mine.
thank you for being there even though you couldn't.
i love you dad.
you're always going to be the best DJ in my eyes.

/music

The World Is A Ghetto - War (funk soul)
this one is for my dad..

Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like A Peasant - Belle & Sebastian (jangle baroque pop)
another fine album from mr.Murdoch & friends. if the opening track doesn't keep you locked in your seat, you either don't have a soul, own a bad pair of headphones or are just picky. which is fine. more music for the rest of us.

We Did Not Know The Forest Spirit Made The Flowers Grow - Black Lips (flower punk)
these fellers put a really great show, what with the igniting of guitars and the genitals flopping around, who wouldn't be having a great time? actually i haven't seen the genitals bit, but i have heard stories..

The French Press

you're going to be gone one day,
i've learned to accept that.
the truth is,
i want to keep that day as far away as possible.
i don't know how much time i have left,
so i'm going to try my best to use it wisely.
maybe we could just sit in your apartment,
listen to your favorite album
and talk about what things were like when you were my age.
hell, i'd love to just hear you talk about anything.
only because i love you.

/music

All Day Music - War (funk soul)
i'm just going to say that anything from War is here because of my father's influence on my music taste. this is another great album.

Moon Pix - Cat Power (electric folk)
i've recently started listening to Chan Marshall a lot lately. something about her breathy vocals just has me hooked.

Creepin' On Ah Come Up - Bone Thugs-N-Harmony (hip hop)
a classic, one of the many soundtracks to my childhood. i remember listening to this all the time in my mom's corolla, oh the times we had.

Blood of Young

i'm tired, i'm feeling rundown.
i'm not having any fun right now.
i think if i sleep,
i'll feel okay,
but first things first,

/music

Unholy Passion EP - Samhain (death punk heavy)
one of my favorite releases from Glenn Danzig's post-misfits group, mainly because of the re-recorded version of All Hell Breaks Loose & the song Misery Tomb.

If You're Feeling Sinister - Belle & Sebastian (jangle baroque pop)
Stuart Murdoch has this voice, i can't quite put my finger on it or truly find the words to describe what it makes me think of, but even in his happiest of tunes, i hear pain. that is why i like B&S.

Killer Klowns EP - the Dickies (punk)
i was introduced to the Dickies through their cover of the Toxic Avenger theme song. i rarely see this EP anywhere, so i figured i'd spread it.

I Won't Expect It

what is the point of anything?
if i try to change the world,
i'll just end up destroying it.
even while trying to save it,
i damage the fucking thing.
sometimes i wish i could just,
i don't know,
sleep at the bottom of the ocean,
forever.

/music

...restlessly wander while the leaves blow...- Various Artists (autumn/winter)
i found this mixtape at a local thrift store and it blew me away. only because all of the other mixtapes i've found have Billy Graham shouting his praise for Jesus or some dude's Patti Smith mix. captures the season perfectly.

Sticks & Stones - New Found Glory (easycore/pop punk)
this album was stuck on repeat a lot while i was in middle school. i remember getting flack for it, but i didn't care, these fools were good & i still think they are. this is something i couldn't let go from those days and i don't think i ever will.

Funtime - the Tall Boys (garagey junk)
it seems nigel lewis & paul fenech are competing with each other, 'who can have the most side projects', although for mr.lewis they are post-meteors projects. in my opinion this is one of his (nigel lewis) better ones, a great chapter in the garage scene of the 80's, another fine example of branching out.

What Can I Say

one of these days motherfucker,
i'm going to stop holding back,
and tell you what i think of your pretentious ass.
you can fool some, but i know the truth.
until then, everything is going to be hunky dory, dig?
see you in the funny papers.

/music

Rock 'n Roll Is Straight From Hell - Unknown Hinson (country western hillbilly hell)
a 6 track cut from the king of country western troubadours. the live tracks are great. all in all it's a fun little album.

Why Can't We Be Friends? - War (funk soul latin beat)
another one of my father's favorite War albums and i can see why. this one has a lot of classics on here, i suggest listening to Heartbeat in it's entirety.

s/t - Vivian Girls (lo-fi girl punk)
these brooklyn born girls can really kick it into high gear and judging from their live videos they most certainly know how to put on a fun show.

This Was Meant For Friday

i remember i said something about not feeling like myself.
it was funny & dramatic.
i wish i could remember it.
oh well.

/music

Love Me, Please Love Me - Sandie Shaw (girl pop)
i like girls that sing. i have yet to meet one. oh well.

Recline of the Mexican Civilization - Manic Hispanic (punk parody)
these guys are hilarious, weird al 4 tha punx for sure.

Chasin' A Dream - Lost Souls (psychobilly)
i rarely see this one anywhere. the Drunksongs link has died, so i decided to bring it back to life.

You Give Me Fever

i used to always think that if i were to be a palm tree,
things would be swell.
turns out having that many dates at once can be hell.
*badum-psshhh*
sue me.

/music

Fire Party - the Curtains (psychobilly)
one of our country's finest psychobilly band, i've heard great things about their live performances & their recordings are well done. listen well, you may see these boys doing great things before you know it.

Skylarking - XTC (new wave/psychedelic)
even though the band hates the shit out of this album, people consider it their finest work. reminds me of '68 Beatles with a bit of early Kinks and a twist of synth junk.

Separates - 999 (punk)
second album from an early london punk band. strangely, i was introduced to this band through a Manic Hispanic parody. spooky eh scoob?

I Don't Wanna Die For Indio

i'm sick and tired of being beaten down by your words,
they drag me up & down breathy staircases.
if your lips shoot me with another venomous line,
i'm going to stand right up, look you in the eye
and say:
'shhhh'

/music

Songs of Praise - the Adicts (punk)
are you a joker in the pack? if you don't have this album, you're not. so get with the times & enjoy this great album.

Worship & Tribute [drum & bass] - Glassjaw (posthardcore)
this is a must-have for any fans of gJ, all it's composed of is the bass & drum tracks from the album W&T. it's an interesting way to listen to Gj's most popular album. i like to think so..

Braindrops - the Fuzztones (garage)
fuzzy punk from NY's best garage outfit. thank you rudi protrudi.

Dance With the Devil's Uncle

do you ever wonder if animals feel any type of emotion?
i have,
so i rounded up a group composed of a dog, a cat, two iguanas & a horse.
i taught them how to live in society and live like humans.
in the end, they all formed a suicide pact and offed themselves.
leaving a note that read:
''lief iz a reel dowhner''
never did get to teach them proper grammar..

/music

It's Alive - the Ramones (punk live)
a classic set from one of my favorite bands. you must have it in your collection.

Walk Among Us - the Misfits (punk)
i first bought this album when i was 13, it blew me away, it still is my favorite album to this day.

S/T - the xx (dream pop/lo-fi)
filler. but dreamy filler. get it and find out..
